Instructions

To be applied at climatic, substrate and processing temperatures between 10°C and 30°C

› Creating an aged/transparent effect on new wood

STEP 1. Prepare the surface to obtain the desired result (planed, sanded wire brushed, ...).

STEP 2. Remove sanding dust from surface and wipe dry.

STEP 3. Stir WoodCream well and dilute with WoodCream Softener to create a more transparent effect (ratio: max 1:1).

STEP 3A. To create an aged effect:

STEP 3B. This effect can only be achieved with a colour from the WoodCream Grey Collection. Stir WoodCream well and dilute with
   WoodCream Softener (ratio: max. 1:1).

STEP 4. Apply carefully and evenly to the vertical surface with a block brush suitable for water-beading products, in the direction of the wood. Work in zones of 3 to 4 boards in the direction of the wood fibre. We recommend working wet-on-wet. Spread the product in one go with the application brush.

› When renovating/refreshing WoodCream

STEP 1. Clean the surface with low pressure water and a soft brush; sanding is not necessary.

STEP 2. Stir WoodCream well and dilute with WoodCream Softener at a ratio of 9 units WoodCream to 1 unit WoodCream Softener. You may adjust this ratio up to 1 unit WoodCream to 1 unit WoodCream Softener to achieve the desired result.

STEP 3. Apply carefully and evenly to the vertical surface with a block brush suitable for water-beading products, in the direction of the wood. Work in zones of 3 to 4 boards in the direction of the wood fibre. We recommend working wet-on-wet. Spread the product in one go with the application brush.

› Maintenance instructions

In general, we recommend an annual visual check-up just after the winter season.

Check for the presence of the following three points:

a. Dirt and green deposits; clean with low pressure water and a soft brush
b. Fading of colours
c. Diminishing pearl effect

If necessary (concerning point b./c.), apply a maintenance coat according to the instructions. The frequency of maintenance depends on the weather conditions:

  • Under normal weather conditions: every 5 years
  • In extreme weather conditions: every 3 years
  • In ideal circumstances this can be considerably longer: up to 10 years

Normal climates: when the colour fades, apply a maintenance coat of WoodCream with WoodCream Softener at a ratio of 9 units WoodCream to 1 unit WoodCream Softener up to a maximum of 1 unit WoodCream to 1 unit WoodCream Softener to achieve the desired result. Consult the technical data sheet for more information.

Frequency according to exposure, geographical situation, orientation of treated wood in relation to the sun, type of wood and desired colour. Waterfront, coast, marshland ... sometimes require more maintenance.

STEP 1. The wood must be cleaned with a mixture of 10% Exterior Wood Cleaner and water. After using Exterior Wood Cleaner, clean the surface with low pressure water and a soft brush; sanding is not necessary. Consult the technical data sheet before use.

STEP 2. Stir WoodCream well and dilute with WoodCream Softener in a ratio of 9 units WoodCream to 1 unit WoodCream Softener up to a maximum of 1 unit WoodCream to 1 unit WoodCream Softener to achieve the desired result.

STEP 3. Apply carefully and evenly to the vertical surface with a block brush suitable for water-beading products, in the direction of the wood. Work in zones of 3 to 4 boards in the direction of the wood fibre. We recommend working wet-on-wet. Spread the product in one go with the application brush.

Tips & Tricks

  • Avoid direct sunlight on the surface.
  • At high temperatures (>30°C) or when there is no shade, we recommend diluting the WoodCream with WoodCream Softener to make the product easier to apply and less prone to drying.
  • On rough and very absorbent wooden surfaces we recommend diluting WoodCream with WoodCream Softener in order to apply WoodCream easily to the surface. For a more opaque effect you can apply a second layer.
  • The tools can be cleaned with water.

Remarks
  • The product can be stored for 24 months in a dry environment in its original packaging.
  • Store in a frost-free environment.
  • WoodCream Softener should always be used in combination with WoodCream. WoodCream Softener is not a stand-alone product.
  • The addition of WoodCream Softener will reduce the UV resistance of the product. Due to this, premature discoloration may occur. This discolouration effect depends on the amount of WoodCream Softener added.

Would you like to treat your exterior vertical wooden surface with WoodCream, but you prefer a more transparent colour or greyish effect? Or would you like to refresh your wooden surface with a new layer of WoodCream? In both cases our WoodCream Softener offers the solution! WoodCream Softener is a ready-to-use product which allows you to reduce the colour intensity of WoodCream colours and to create a more transparent or greyish effect. WoodCream Softener is also the ideal maintenance product for maintaining surfaces treated with WoodCream.

In addition, WoodCream Softener makes it easier to apply the WoodCream on rough surfaces. Although the colouring strength itself is reduced by the WoodCream Softener, the viscosity of the product does not change. Finally, the product is easier to apply when it is warm, because the drying time is slightly longer. This way you avoid overlapping.

Just like many other products in the Rubio Monocoat range, the WoodCream Softener contains 0% VOC. The latter are Volatile Organic Compounds, harmful substances that are released when applying products and which increase the greenhouse effect. Many traditional finishing products still contain VOCs, but Rubio Monocoat's revolutionary products contain as little VOCs as possible. The WoodCream Softener is even completely VOC-free.

Customer Questions
Can I apply two layers of WoodCream?

You can apply a second layer of WoodCream, but it is not a necessity. People tend to add another layer for aesthetics - to enhance the colour on their exterior wood.
