What do I apply Oil Plus 2C with? Is there a difference in tools?
In this article, we will look at what you should use to apply Oil Plus 2C.
A common question we get asked at Rubio Monocoat, is how to apply our Oil Plus 2C. We have lots of different application tools from varied coloured scrubbies and 6 inch discs to spatulas and microfibre pads.
However, for Oil Plus 2C, your focus should be on the beige scrubby, white scrubby, white rags, 6 and 16 inch beige and white pads and our spatula! Now, each tool has a different purpose, so find out what suits you the best below!

The Beige Scrubby Pad
Our most popular application tool is our beige scrubby. It comes square shaped and is paired with the blue handle to apply the oil efficiently. It’s slightly coarse and absorbs a lot of the oil, so you can press down the pad on the surface and keep getting more and more oil!
Also, the pad can be cut up into smaller pieces, so you can reach places that are difficult to apply to. It’s also good to dice them up if you’re making samples too.
The pads also come in a handy set with a blue handle with it!
The 6 and 16 Inch Beige Pad
The 6 inch and 16 inch pads are also for application of our oil, but are designed to work with orbital sanders and floor sanders. These are for applications on a bigger surface, like a huge dining table or floor. They’re round to fit perfectly to your power tool of choice!
The White Rags
White rags are to wipe off the excess after you’ve applied Oil Plus 2C. This is an important method, so you need a reliable item!
The beige scrubby pad with blue handle and white rag combo is the most popular method of application. It’s easy and straightforward. The rags can be cut up into smaller pieces, like the scrubbies to save on tools, and get into the harder to reach areas.
The White Pad
The white pad does the same job as the rags, but can be handy if you’re working on a bigger surface. Like the beige pad, it can be attached to the blue handle for an easy excess removal and is square shaped.
We wouldn’t recommend applying oil with these pads, the white ones are best to remove the excess. Ensure all the excess is off after using the pad, and use a rag if you’ve missed a spot!
The 6 and 16 inch White Pads
Similarly to the beige round pads, the 6 and 16 inch white pads are designed to work on sanders, to help you remove the excess of Oil Plus 2C on a bigger scale.
They are also recommended for taking off excess of the oil, not application.

The Spatula
A popular choice is the spatula, that will save you on pads! As the oil is linseed based, all pads and rags will need to be disposed of properly - submerged in water, then in a bag with the oxygen supply cut off.
With the spatula, you can clean it with our Cleaner and reuse it! The spatula is best for flat surfaces and may be difficult to use for more intricate pieces. It’s also only for application - you’ll need white pads or rags to take off the excess still!
Spraying
Oil Plus 2C can be sprayed, but will still need to be worked in with a beige pad. Please get in touch with us if you’re interested in this method of application.
