outdoor wood

Pine wood - perfect for furniture because of its softness, making it easy to work with, and its naturally attractive grain pattern. Restoring pine furniture can renew pieces that might be worn or outdated, reviving their original beauty and strengthening their durability.

Why Choose Rubio Monocoat for Pine Furniture?

Our products at Rubio Monocoat have a glowing reputation in the furniture restoration market due to their eco-friendly formulations and superior efficiency. These products are perfectly-suited for pine furniture, which requires gentle but effective treatment to enhance and protect its soft, porous surface.

Oil Plus 2C, for example, is an oil that offers a unique molecular bonding technology. This means it doesn’t just sit on the surface, it actually bonds with the wood fibres on a molecular level, providing durable protection without forming a film. It also enhances the natural look of the pine, preserving its warmth and depth of grain.

Our products are free of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and other harmful chemicals, making them safer for both you and the environment. The beautiful results are equally impressive, providing a natural finish that highlights rather than hides the pine's character.

Resources & Products Needed

To successfully restore pine furniture, you'll need to gather a few tools and the right products. We recommend using the following equipment and Rubio Monocoat products when restoring pine furniture:

  • Oil Plus 2C: The primary product for finishing your furniture. It colours and protects in one single layer.
  • Cleaner: Using this helps with preparing the surface before applying the oil.
  • Beige Scrubby Pads: Pads will be used to apply Oil Plus 2C evenly across the furniture.
  • White wiping rags: to rid to surface of any oil excess after applying

Preparing the Pine Furniture

Before applying any finish, you’ll want to perform a proper preparation of your pine furniture. Start by thoroughly cleaning the piece. This will remove any grease, dirt, or remnants of old finishes, providing a clean base for the oil.

After cleaning, sanding is your next step. Use a medium-grit sandpaper to remove the old finish and smooth out any imperfections or rough areas. For pine, it's important not to sand too aggressively as the wood is relatively soft. Once you’ve achieved a smooth surface, we recommend up to a 120 to a 150 grit, then use our Cleaner to get rid of any sanding dust.

Applying Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C

Applying Rubio Monocoat Oil Plus 2C is straightforward. Below are the steps you should follow when applying Oil Plus 2C:

  • Mix the Oil Plus 2C:

Follow the instructions to mix the oil with its accelerator component. This activates the oil for a stronger and faster bond with the wood. The ratio will be three parts oil, to one part accelerator.

  • Apply the Oil: Using a beige scrubby pad, apply a small amount of Oil Plus 2C to the furniture. Work in manageable sections, spreading the oil evenly. For soft woods like pine, we recommend applying the oil onto the beige scrubby first, then apply, so the oil doesn’t sink into one area on the wood.
  • Remove the excess: Wait around five minutes, then wipe off the excess with a white wiping rag.

Using Oil Plus 2C for this job unlocks plenty of benefits, such as its single-coat application and the wide range of available colours that can be tailored to match or enhance the natural hue of your pine furniture.

Maintenance Recommendations

Maintaining your restored pine furniture is crucial for prolonging its life and beauty. We recommend using our cleaning and maintenance products designed to work in harmony with their finishes. Regular dusting and occasional cleaning with the All Natural Wood Cleaner will keep your furniture looking its best. For minor scratches or wear, a small application of Oil Plus 2C can be reapplied to the affected area. When the furniture is showing wear and tear, you can use our Universal Maintenance Oil 2 Mix to refresh the area.

By following these steps and using Rubio Monocoat products, you ensure that your pine furniture is both beautifully restored and protected with the most natural and durable finish available on the market.
